Since 1980...
We were founded in 1980 by Sam & Betty Rivenbark in Wilmington, NC on Old Winter Park Rd. Five beautiful oak trees on the property inspired our brand, and the rest was history. Sam & Betty had a simple formula for success - take care of the customer. As Betty said, "we didn't even have phone service in the beginning, but we had word of mouth." This foundation of success was passed on to their daughter Monica who continued to build on the success of the business.
Phil & Amanda Miller bought the business in 2025 to continue building on Sam & Betty's legacy. They view themselves as caretakers of the brand as they focus on expanding its reach.

Five Oaks Oleander is our primary and retail-focused location with a wide selection ranging from annuals and perennials to trees and shrubs. With acres of outdoor plant space and a spacious greenhouse for house plants, we have what you need to beautify your home and garden.

Five Oaks Farm
Many of the plants you see at our Wrightsboro and Oleander locations began their journey years ago as tiny plants growing at our 47 acre farm in Burgaw, NC. Five Oaks Farm possesses everything needed to cultivate plants, ranging from equipment to irrigation canals.
Our skilled team of growers use the propagation process in which we take a short cutting from a large plant and place it in its own small pot inside a greenhouse under carefully monitored conditions. As these small plants establish roots they leave the greenhouse and begin their multi-year journey from our farm to you.

Yearly Schedule of Care
Spring
- Apply pre-emergent weed control in planting beds
- Apply horticulture oil on plants for control over insects and eggs
- Fertilize (After April 15th)
- Prune Azaleas and other spring-blooming shrubs – after they bloom
- Water!
Summer
- Apply disease and insect control as needed
- Deadhead annuals and perennials to prolong the blooming season
- Prune summer blooming shrubs – after they bloom
- Water!
Fall
- Apply disease and insect control as needed
- Remove annuals
- Cut back perennials
- Apply pre-emergent weed control in planting beds

Winter
- Apply horticulture oil on plants for control over insects and eggs
- Prune Crape Myrtles and Roses
