Since 1980...
We were founded in 1980 by Sam & Betty Rivenbark in Wilmington, NC on Old Winter Park Rd. Five beautiful oak trees on the property inspired our brand, and the rest was history. Sam & Betty had a simple formula for success - take care of the customer. As Betty said, "we didn't even have phone service in the beginning, but we had word of mouth." This foundation of success was passed on to their daughter Monica who continued to build on the success of the business.
Phil & Amanda Miller bought the business in 2025 to continue building on Sam & Betty's legacy. They view themselves as caretakers of the brand as they focus on expanding its reach.
Our Farm
Five Oaks spans our main retail location on Oleander Drive along with our main wholesale location off of Old Winter Park Road and a thriving 47-acre farm in Burgaw, NC. The plants you discover at our Wrightsboro and Oleander shops have often spent years developing at our farm, nurtured from small cuttings into the vibrant specimens ready for your home.
Our grower and team of experienced crew members use propagation to transform single cuttings into rooted plants. In our climate-controlled greenhouse, each cutting is carefully monitored as it establishes roots. Once ready, these young plants begin their multi-year journey from our farm to your garden, gaining strength and character along the way.

Five Oaks Wrightsboro is our Wholesale-focused location with a wide selection ranging from annuals and perennials to trees and shrubs. This is where our grower is based and majority of our shurbs and trees are propagated.
